Most people would agree that failure is hard to accept. It’s even harder when the financial world collapses as well. But perhaps the largest challenge is to rise from the ashes of failure and success. Musicians, actors, actresses and entrepreneurs have done that. But, Emerson Fittipaldi, a Brazilian race car has also achieved this feat. Fittipaldi was born into a family of race. His father, Wilson, had raced motorcycles and cars, and was a motor racing journalist well-known in Brazil. As a child, Emerson has worked with his brother, Wilson Jr., and capabilities of racing karts.
Emerson (Cardinal) believes that to achieve a career in racing should go to England and he left home and went to London in 1969. He met Jim Russell, who owns a racing school, he was struck by a smooth and controlled Emmo. Cardinal started driving in Formula 3 and won. In 1970, he went to Formula 1. In 1972, the Cardinal has won the F1 championship, the youngest driver to achieve this goal. He has also worked to improve the F! automobile and road safety. While the race in the Grand Prix of Spain, stopped his car at the end of the first round to complain about unsafe track conditions. Later in the same car racing another driver off the track, killing four spectators.
At the end of the 1975 season, with the path of glory that awaited him, His Eminence made a choice that would lead to their downfall. He left his race team and joined a core team that was organized by his brother, Wilson, Jr., with support from the Brazilian sugar industry. But, their cars were not reliable and collapsed Cardinal win record. He retired from the European tour in 1980 to manage the family computer, but it folded in 1982. fantastic debt to his return to Brazil to try to recover their financial losses. At that time he had driven in 144 Grand Prix and won 14.
But, even through the hard work that has been learned from the financial stagnation, always wanted to run. In 1984, instead of returning to Europe Emmo chose to try his skill in the United States and joined the American Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) Indy-Car. His first race was the Long Beach Grand Prix and finished fifth. At first he was welcomed by American fans who jeered him when he arrived at the Indianapolis 500 in a pink car. But, the Cardinal has won the CART championship in 1989 and won the Indy 500 in 1989 and 1993. The boy from Brazil is back on the ladder of professional success, but not for long.
In 1996, Cardinal crashed at Michigan International Speedway. He survived the collision, but was nearly completely paralyzed and has chose to withdraw from the competition. Then in 1997 he was wounded again, this time in a plane crash. He had the chance to regain movement in his legs. And he was alive, while many of his friends was dead on the runway. He retains a link with the race thanks to its various business projects.
