It is also a very new model which is manufactured in year 2009. I was a small jealous of him getting to ride this pony as compared to mine which is a Ducati 900ss. Anyway, I was pleased for him as a fellow Superbiker.

Ever wondered what is a 180 horsies bike will feel like? Well, let’s compare it to our very own Proton Perdana V6. This car produces an equivalent of 170 horse powers. When we do the maths, a Proton Perdana weighs around 1700 kgs as compared to my friend’s ride weighing a small more than 180kgs. So, the next time, other than making sure your bike is bright and all ready for that glamorous outing, remember that speed kills. It will take us Superbikers to break the Malaysian speed limit of 110 km/h in less than 4 seconds at only in the second gear and sometimes the first gear. The absolute respect for your bike is a priority.

We are looking to pick up points with both cars at Magny-Cours and in so doing strengthen our third place in the World Championship. ”

The 1995 Avalon was a completely new model, built in the same plant as the Camry. The Avalon was based on a stretched Camry platform featuring a 3. 0-litre 1MZ-FE V6 engine making 192 hp (140 kW) and 210 lbft (285 Nm) of torque.

The Avalon was available with a front bench seat for full six-passenger seating, and its column shifter was the first such feature in an American Toyota car since the 1982 Corona. Traction control was optional. For 1997 models ABS became standard, power rating increased to 200 hp (150 kW), and torque increased to 214 lbft (290 Nm). In 1998 a mid-cycle refresh was made with minor updates to the front and rear fascias. In 1999, Toyota sold the ancient tooling for the Avalon to Toyota Australia, which launched this Avalon as an “all-new” model in June 2000. The Australian Avalon therefore had an identical body to the original 1995 Avalon. The Australian model was built in the Melbourne suburb of Altona, made in both right-hand drive (for Australia, New Zealand and some parts of Asia) and left-hand drive for the Middle East. The Camry was also made at this plant. The Avalon performed poorly in Australia; critics called the car “dull”, and sales were tepid. The Avalon was front-wheel drive and available only as a sedan with a 3. 0 litre V6 and automatic transmission. By contrast, its intended rivals, the Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore, offered a wider range of body styles and engine/transmission options.

Many buyers preferred the V6-powered Camry instead of the Avalon, and the 2004 facelift failed to rectify the lower than expected sales, with many criticizing the new front styling. Because of these sales concerns, Toyota Australia marketed it towards taxi fleets, against the Ford Falcon, with a specially developed dual-fuel (LPG and petrol)-compatible engine. Avalon production stopped in mid-2005. In November 2006, Toyota introduced its replacement, the Toyota Aurion.

The second-generation Avalon grew larger in nearly every respect. It was still based on the stretched Camry platform and was powered by a 3. 0 litre 1MZ-FE V6 engine equipped with VVT-i, shared with the Toyota Sienna, Lexus RX300, Lexus ES, and the Toyota Highlander, making 210 hp (157 kW) and 220 lbft (298 Nm). of torque and paired to a 4-speed automatic. This Avalon was available in two trims: the basic XL and the upscale XLS. Standard features include electroluminescent Optitron gauges, 4-wheel disc ABS, front torso side airbags and 15″ alloy wheels. Optional features include a JBL audio system, Vehicle Stability Control, and a front row bench seat, allowing up to six passengers distinguishable characteristic of large sized cars. But the front center seat is a tight fit for an adult passenger. Dual climate control, stability control, larger 16″ wheels, and driver’s and passenger’s power seats were also available.

This second-generation Avalon also featured a built-in 115V AC power inverter, the first car with such a feature. This feature was dropped in the third-generation Avalon; yet, the Toyota Matrix and Scion models now offer this feature.

The Avalon received a mid-cycle facelift for the 2003 model year, with a new grille and modified headlights and taillights. The minor interior changes included a woodgrain-style trimmed steering wheel for the XLS, slightly modified gauges, and a chrome emblem steering wheel added onto the XL (once only standard for the XLS).

This second-generation Avalon was exported to the Japanese market, where it was sold as the Toyota Pronard. Due to poor sales, Toyota did not export the third-generation Avalon to Japan; thus, the Toyota Pronard has been discontinued.

In the IIHS frontal crash test the Avalon received a “Excellent” overall score with the “Excellent” in all six measured categories.

Toyota’s third-generation Avalon underwent a complete redesign in 2005, and was unveiled to the public at the 2005 North American International Auto Show, it went on sale the following February. Toyota reportedly cut the Avalon’s development time down from 29. 5 months to 18 months.

The new Avalon was larger than previous Avalons in every aspect, featuring less conservative more modern Calty styling, with a coefficient of drag figure of 0. 29 Cd, the Avalon also became the first Toyota to use a single piece wiper blade design. For safety reasons the redesign dropped the front bench seat option, a feature once common among large American sedans such as Buicks and in order to help increase rear passenger comfort the Avalon featured a flat rear floor.

The Avalon was the first Toyota to use Dual VVT-i in the US market in an all-new 3. 5-liter 2GR-FE V6 engine which met ULEV certification and had a power output of 280 hp (209 kW). The engine was mated to a 5-speed sequential shift automatic. Due to changes in the SAE’s testing procedures, power dropped to 268 hp (200 kW) and torque dropped to 248 lbft (336 Nm) for the 2006 model year. The Avalon came in four trims, a standard XL trim, a sporty Touring trim, an XLS trim and a premium Limited trim. The XL model came standard with 16″ alloy wheels, while other trims came with larger 17″ wheels. Performance oriented tires were fitted to the Touring and Limited trim.

The XL introduces standard features such as dual-climate automatic temperature control and steering wheel-mounted audio and climate controls. The Touring trim offers faux aluminum and black leather interior, a sport-tuned suspension, and a trunk lip-mounted spoiler. The XLS introduces standard cargo nets, six-disc CD changer, a power moonroof, electrochromic auto dimming rear-view and driver’s side-view mirrors, four-way passenger power seat and a HomeLink transceiver. The high-end Limited trim offers air-ventilated seats with a power driver’s seat cushion length adjuster, Toyota’s Smart Key System with keyless push-button start and entry, an acoustic windshield, rain-sensing windshield wipers, an upgraded 12-speaker JBL audio system, “in-glass” LED turn signals on the side mirrors and a wood-trimmed steering wheel and shift gear. A navigation system is optional for every trim other than the XL version. The Avalon features a flat rear floor design and reclining rear seats. Vehicle Stability Control is optional on all trim levels. Other options include a keyless Remote Engine Start, rear window power sunshade and on Limited models a Dynamic Laser Cruise Control system. HID lighting with auto leveling was standard on Touring and Limited grades.

Model year changes

For 2008, the Avalon received a mild mid-cycle refresh. Changes include a six-speed automatic transmission, chrome exterior door handles for the Limited trim, restyled alloy wheels for the Touring and XLS trims, a built-in remote key, upgraded rear brakes, and Bluetooth integration with all JBL Synthesis audio systems. Rear taillights receive subtle tinting, and the front fascia is redesigned with a more striking grille; XL models receive a black grille, Touring models receive a color-keyed grille, and XLS and Limited models receive a chrome grille. All models now have a standard in-dash 6-CD changer.

The 2009 Avalon offers a few changes. Vehicle Stability Control became standard on all trim levels, and the Touring version is no longer offered. XLS and Limited leather seats now offer a Dark Charcoal color, and the Indigo Ink Pearl exterior color has been replaced with Cocoa Bean Metallic.

The 2010 model year offers one minimal update. All passenger windows now receive an automatic up/down function, as opposed to just the driver and front passenger’s side.

2011 model

For the 2011 model year the Avalon has been updated and significantly restyled with a more contemporary look. Making its first appearance at the 2010 Chicago Auto Show sales will start the following April with only two trimlines: a base Avalon model and a more upscale Limited trim. A backup camera is now standard using either the rear view mirror or navigation screen for a show, and exterior side mirrors now fold. The updated navigation system now features real-time traffic updates. Other new features include redesigned instrument cluster and center console, new wood trim, and a different rear fascia design. Fuel economy has been slightly improved to an EPA-estimated 20/29/23 (city/highway/combined) rating.

Safety

The Avalon comes standard with anti-lock brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, brake help, dual front airbags, front row side torso airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags, and a driver’s knee airbag. For 2009 models Vehicle Stability Control, traction control became standard while active head restraints were added. For 2011 the Avalon comes with a brake override feature.

The Avalon received a “Excellent” overall score in both the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety frontal offset and side impact tests. In 2009, with the new head restraints the IIHS awarded the Avalon its Top Safety Pick accolade.

Media reception

Car and Driver, which had called previous Avalons “Japanese Buicks,” rated it at the top of a group of large premium sedans in 2005. Edmunds. com, Motor Trend and Automobile Magazine also rated it top in their own comparisons. Consumer Reports rated the Avalon at the top of its class in the large and upscale category, scoring ahead of five other sedans in the January 2010 issue.

On Wednesday September 26, 2007, nearly 200 mourners gathered to give the last farewell to former World Rally Champion, Colin McRae, and his five-year ancient son, Johnny, who died in a helicopter crash last September 15th, and whose bodies lie in the same coffin, in a private service held at Daldowie Crematorium, near Glasgow.

The service was attended by family members and friends, such as the Formula 1 legend Sir Jackie Stewart and the IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti.

The Scottish driver started his rally career in 1986 and ran his first World Rally Championship in 1987 in the Swedish Rally. He won his first WRC in 1993, driving a Subaru Legacy in the Rally New Zealand. In his career he ran 146 world rallies, winning 25 of them and finishing in the podium 42 times. He retired on 2006, although he was expected to return to the sport.

McRae, of 39, died in Jerviswood, Lanarkshire, half a mile from the family’s home, when the helicopter he was piloting, crash and burst into flames. Besides his son Johnny, in the helicopter also were his son six-year-ancient friend, Ben Porcelli, and a family friend, Graeme Duncan, of 37 years ancient, who also died in the air crash.

McRae passing away has shocked the auto racing world, as he was a legend and a hero for many people. He was very beloved and respected in the United Kingdom, and was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by the Queen Elizabeth II in 1996.

As a tribute, his former teammate in the Nations Cup section of the annual Race of Champions, David Coulthard, who were due to compete again with him at Wembley in December, is going to wear a helmet designed like McRae’s at the F1 Japanese Grand Prix, this Sunday, September 30. Coulthard questioned for Colin’s family permission to do this and said that: “I’ll question other drivers to sign it and give it to the family as a memento. ”

Robert Kubica claimed that the Montreal Grand Prix will give him an opportunity to evaluate how his driving style has adapted. “I am really looking forward to Montreal as it is one of my favorite tracks in the Formula 1 calendar. It means driving with lower downforce for the first time this season,” he said.

“Last year on the Friday I was quite excellent there. I am looking to repeat that performance and I reckon our car can perform very well there because of the downforce configuration. It will be fascinating to see how I can cope with the Bridgestone tyres compared to the Michelins of last year, and how I have to change my driving style,” Kubica noted.

He added, “I will see how huge an influence it was for me to change to the different tyres. Montreal was the track where my driving style of last year gave me an advantage. As I am not driving the same as in 2006 we have to see how it will be this year. ”

The Polish Formula One racer topped the time-sheets in practice for last season’s Montreal GP as his spirited driving style suited the nature of the circuit. The 22-year-ancient racer has been forced to change the way he drives since F1 went to a single tyre provider. Even so, Kubica is confident that the BMW will be well-suited to the low downforce configuration required at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit.

“The combination of long straights and chicanes makes Montreal what we call a ‘medium downforce’ circuit, and we have developed a special aero package that takes this into account. The long straight leading up to the final chicane offers the drivers the best overtaking opportunity if top speed allows, said Willy Rampf, the BMW Sauber’s technical director.

Rampf added, “Montreal is harder on the brakes than any other circuit on the F1 calendar, so maximum brake cooling and high-performance specifications for discs and pads are the order of the day. This is a circuit that punishes even the slightest error, as the crash barriers are largely extremely close to the track and there are not many run-off areas. We were very competitive in Canada last year, and I am extremely confident that we will be able to come away with excellent results again this year. ”

Kubica admitted that he is intrigued to know how the changes he made to his driving style over the winter will affect his performance on the track, a circuit he feels he had an advantage on last year. Kubica was BMW Sauber’s third driver at the Canadian Grand Prix last season. He hopes he is able to match the record with his revised style this year. With BMW head gasket, engines, new set of tyres, and aggressive driving, Kubica is expected to make a excellent record this year.

BMW Sauber’s motorsport boss Mario Theissen said that it is vital that the team improves on that record in this year’s North American double-header if it is to consolidate third place in the constructors’ championship. “Last year, we crossed the Atlantic in fifth place in the standings,” Theissen said. “In 2007 we will be arriving in Canada as the third best team. In 2006 we were only able to take two points away from the pair of races in North America. This is something we are naturally looking to improve on, and we are aiming to collect as many points as possible on the back of our excellent result in Monaco in order to further strengthen our position in the championship. ”

BMW Sauber is sitting comfortably in third place in this year’s constructor’s championship standings. After seven races this season, the team has 39 points behind Ferrari’s 71 and McLaren’s 106. The closest team behind BMW Sauber currently is Renault with 25 championship points.

The two races in North American soil is expected to be where BMW Sauber will improve its performance and add more points to their credit. Unfortunately, the first North American race, the Canadian Grand Prix, did not go well for BMW diver Robert Kubica who suffered a minor concussion and a sprained ankle after a high-speed crash.

After the accident, Kubica recovered immediately but was not cleared by the doctors and the FIA to participate at the United States Grand Prix. Instead, BMW fielded their second F1. 07 driven by rookie Sebastian Vettel. The rookie managed to take the eighth place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway which got a single point for him and the team.

Kubica, the first Polish to drive in a Formula One Grand Prix, is expected to be back for the French Grand Prix but will not participate in the testing session at Silverstone. The Formula One driver will undergo a checkup before he will be permitted to drive for team BMW Sauber. “Robert will have another check-up in Magny-Cours,” says BMW team boss Mario Theissen. “Without wanting to pre-empt the doctors, I’m expecting it to be positive. As soon as we get the all clear from the doctors, Robert will be straight back in the driving seat. ”

Another BMW starter, Nick Heidfeld performed well at the Canadian Grand Prix but failed to end at the United States Grand Prix. The German driver took the first podium end for any team aside from McLaren and Ferrari. He scored eight points for him and BMW Sauber after taking the second place at the Canadian Grand Prix behind Lewis Hamilton.

After tying his best career end at the Canadian Grand Prix, the German Formula One driver did not have to rest as he participated at the practice sessions for the United States Grand Prix. At the race though, he was forced to retire after his car’s hydraulics malfunctioned. This means that BMW only took a single point in the race where their largest market lies. “Prior to my retirement, I was first unable to steer and then I couldn’t change gears anymore. The transmission was stuck in fourth gear and that was it for me,” says Heidfeld

After the United States Grand Prix, Heidfeld still did not have time to take a breather as he participated in the testing of their Formula One car at the Silverstone circuit. The team’s website described Heidfeld’s itinerary this way: “Within ten days Nick competed in six practice sessions, two qualifyings and two races in North America. In Canada, the BMW Sauber F1 Team driver was able to celebrate a second place and eight World Championship points. ”

At the testing session, the German Formula One driver covered 42 laps for a total of 205 kilometers. During the testing of the car, Heidfeld focused on the choice of tires. Aerodynamic and mechanical components were also tested by the German driver. Unfortunately, he stopped the testing one hour ahead of schedule due to slight pains. Test driver Timo Glock is scheduled to carry on with the testing of the BMW F1. 07 until the 21st of June.

As the current Formula 1 season unfolds, Toyota has set its eye to overtake BMW and become the third fastest team. The team is currently competing in a tight race against teams such as Renault, Red Bull, and Williams. Team President John Howett is confident that his team has what it takes to pull away from the said teams and compete with the German team.

The announcement came as the Barcelona Grand Prix approaches. To date, the team has had considerable successes but needs podium finishes to become a strong contender to BMW. Howett maintained that their goal for the season is to continue what they have been doing in order to maintain their current standing as one of the top teams in the second group. He also pointed out that they have to be able to prevent slipping down the rankings.

Howett said that the team has gone a long distance since they have joined the F1 melee. “It’s clear from last year that we can make major improvements in performance over a season after we went from a pretty slow start to a competitive position at the end of the year,” he said. Howett expressed his confidence on his team to perform well for the remainder of the season although he maintained that they will be up against some strong teams. “We are intending to do exactly the same this year but we are acutely aware there are another four, five or six teams out there trying to do exactly the same,” said Howett. “It is a motivating challenge for the people here to do it again and to show we are an emerging and serious challenger on the F1 grid,” he added further.

Meanwhile, Toyota’s Senior General Manager Pascal Vasselon talks about his expectations for the team at the upcoming Barcelona Grand Prix. Vasselon also reflected on team Toyota’s accomplishment at the Bahrain Grand Prix. He clarified how the race has gone for the team. “On the one hand it was a better race for us than expected,” he says. “People may remember that in Bahrain testing we were not looking so excellent. In fact there were some obvious explanations, the first one being that we had quite a few small reliability issues that just prevented us from running. When you don’t get a lot of mileage you end up in a vicious circle – you don’t develop the car, you don’t evolve a set-up and so it goes on. ”

He also compared the Bahrain race to the Malaysian Grand Prix saying: “One consequence was that we were unable to run low levels of downforce. From that point of view quite a lot changed at the race and in terms of performance with one car we were another step closer to the top, even compared to Malaysia. With Ralf (Schumacher) we were not as quick as we would have liked and we clearly have to review some of the set-up guidelines. At some places, such as Bahrain, some of those recent guidelines are simply not working. ”

Currently, Jarno Trulli, one of Toyota’s drivers, is number eight on the driver’s championship with four points to his credit. Ralf Schumacher, another Toyota driver, sits at the eleventh spot with a single point to his credit. As a team, Toyota sits on fifth with five points to their credit as the team they are trying to overtake; BMW Sauber is occupying the third spot. Currently leading the field in the constructor’s championship is the team of McLaren-Mercedes with 44 points. Ferrari sits at second with 39 points. BMW Sauber has 18 points and Renault sits at fourth with nine points.

Aside from these five teams, the only other team to have gained points for the season is Williams-Toyota with two points and is currently owning the sixth place.

The next race this season will be in Barcelona and that race will show if Toyota can be a strong contender for BMW Sauber which fields cars with high performance that one can see in a BMW car equipped with high performance engines and reliable auto parts such as BMW alternators, starting motor, spark plugs, and the like.
