As a new parent, all things enter your mind when it comes to your newborn. Is the outfit warm enough; is he or she getting
enough formula or breast milk; what kind of diapers should I
buy; will I be a excellent enough parent?
Eventually, parents will start to question if the baby’s clothes
should be separated from everyone else’s and if they should use
their own powder/liquid when it comes to washing clothes. As
for the concern, there are some valid points but it breaks down
into three subjects areas of concern.
1. Detergent –
As adults, we know that certain detergents will cause us to
break out while others won’t. The same thing goes for a newborn
but even more so. It is possible that your child could be
allergic to the type of detergent you use for everyone else’s
clothes. Their skin is much newer, of course, making it much
more sensitive and tender because they have not been exposed to
all the things adults have.
There are numerous detergents aimed at baby garments but there is not that much of a difference from them and other gentle
detergents. The best one to use would be one that is fragrance
free and added colors.
Should the baby develop a rash or is experiencing some sort of
discomfort of the skin, then it would be wise to consult your
child’s pediatrician. Only they can determine if it’s the
detergent that is causing the problem or something even more
serious. If it is determined it is the detergent, they will more
than likely suggest using another mild one.
2. Baby Clothes vs. Family Clothes –
Are you the type of parents who separates their baby’s clothes
from the rest of the relatives or are you the type to not really
care and just throw them altogether. For those parents who don’t
wash them all together, keeping them split is not really
necessary. The tainting or contaminating of the baby’s clothes
from everyone else’s is nothing to be worried about. This is
not right.
The only exclusion to this is cloth diapers. Unless the family
uses a diaper service, washing those diapers independently is
very vital because of the constant peeing and pooping on
them.
3. Cloth Diapers –
A distant thing of recent past, cloth diapers is being replaced
by more convenient disposables ones. Yet, for the families who
choose on using clothes diapers, there are some considerations
that must be factored in.
It is more sanitary to use a diaper service rather than washing
at home. Plus this frees up your washer machine for other
clothes and keeps the diapers germ-free coming back from the
service.
But, should you choose to wash them at home, remember that
the diapers need to be cleaned alone from other clothes.
Storing the dirty diapers until laundry day should be made
sanitary too. This means, wash the diaper in the bathroom toilet to eliminate solid desecrate (poop) then store it in a pail pending time to wash. This pail will need to be lined with a bag and be covered to avoid odors. To make things simpler, wash the pail when you wash those cloth diapers. These should be washed twice a week.
