So, why do Christian colleges and online Bible colleges teach to the mind? Why do Christian churches focus so much on reason? Perhaps the western culture has it backward, when it chooses to train and live out of the mind and neglect the heart and the spirit. For thinking, reason, study and the mind have less than 1/10 the verses that faith, hope, like and heart/spirit have. The “Law of Proportion” says that “an author reveals his emphasis or lack of it, by the relative amount of treatment given to a specific subject. ”

God releases His life through union with man’s’ spirit (1 Cor. 6:17). The heart is healed of its negative attitudes when one calls out to God to heal it. Make in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me (Ps. 51:10). Also note that God’s truth is a “spirit of truth (Jn. 16:13),” God’s wisdom is a “spirit of wisdom (Isa. 11:2),” God’s knowledge is a “spirit of knowledge (I Cor. 12:8),” and that God’s creativity comes through the heart of man (Ex. 15:31). Perhaps that’s why Einstein said, “I want to know God’s thoughts, the rest are details.
